GRIFFIN DIFFERENCE

Griffin engineering designed a wellpoint system to handle potential high flows, due to the location of the excavation. Griffin introduced the Hach monitoring system, which saved Hensel Phelps several man hours from having to pull water samples with a traditional handheld monitoring system.

THE CHALLENGE

Griffin was challenged with dewatering a competition pool that was being constructed on a peninsula surrounded by the Intercoastal Waterway. The project required a perimeter dewatering system within the temporary sheet piles. In addition, the dewatering discharge was being directed into the Intercoastal Waterway. This required daily turbidity monitoring at the discharge point and at the background location.

THE SOLUTION

Griffin installed a perimeter wellpoint system within the sheeting of the excavation. Griffin Dewatering directed the discharge to the Intercoastal Waterway. We installed a Hach monitoring system at the discharge point, as well as a floating monitoring system at the background location. Griffin Dewatering and Hensel Phelps were able to access and review the turbidity readings real time through the Hach system web portal. This prevented the contractor from having to pull daily samples. The system was updated every 60 seconds.
